Queen Mothers resolve conflict and build social cohesion in northern Ghana

Kansawurche Dr. Hajia Bukari uses her small clinic in rural northern Ghana to treat injuries, deliver babies and resolve community conflicts. As a traditional female leader called a Queen Mother, neighbors bring disputes with the hope that she can negotiate a mutually agreeable settlement and avoid the possibility of violence. To support her efforts and those of other Queen Mothers, USAID/OTI’s Littorals Regional Initiative provided leadership and conflict resolution training. The Queen Mothers say the training has made a significant difference in their ability to address conflict in the region. Produced on behalf of USAID/OTI.
