CREATIVE’S PAST PROJECTS

40+ years of promoting positive change

Creative has implemented hundreds of projects around the globe since it was founded in 1977. From education and elections to governance and economic growth, Creative’s efforts have made a difference. For example, since the year 2000, Creative has trained more than 389,000 teachers in 21 countries—providing them with new skills and techniques that ultimately benefit their students.

BEPS/Latin America and Caribbean/ Centers of Excellence for Teacher Training (CETT)

Date: January 2001 – December 2005

To raise literacy levels, USAID contracted Creative to design Centers of Excellence for Teacher Training (CETT) in the Caribbean, Central America and the Andean region of South America. The centers were provided pre-service and in-service teachers with practical training and tools for teaching reading to students in the early grades. Also provided were diagnostic tools, teaching and learning materials, research training in the use of information and communication technology....

 

 

BEPS/MOROCCO: MOROCCO EDUCATION FOR GIRLS (MEG) CASE STUDY AND TRAINING MODULES

Date: October 2003 - June 2004

Creative began developing a case study and designing two training manuals for school directors for the Ministry of National Education and Youth. These directors will then be equipped to promote a healthy school environment that supports learning, involves communities in education, and increases participation by girls. This work, part of the USAID-funded Basic Education Policy Support (BEPS) Activity, built on the highly successful Morocco Education for Girls (MEG) project managed by Creative from 1997-2003....

 

 

BEPS/SOMALIA: EDUCATION SECTOR ASSESSMENT

Date: April - May 2003

As part of supporting Somalia’s stability and further development, Creative conducted a comprehensive assessment of all aspects of the education system--from primary to tertiary levels. It highlighted areas where USAID assistance could make an impact, including expanding non-formal education to children in sparsely populated areas and children deprived of education during conflict; assisting more females become teachers, strengthening community education committees and enhancing the planning and management capacity of educational leaders. ...

 

 

BEPS/UGANDA: EXPANDING TEACHER TRAINING NATIONWIDE

Date: June 2001 - July 2005

Creative supported a series of efforts to achieve education for all in Uganda. Work included strengthening school management and community participation, promoting participatory learning practices, increasing teacher effectiveness, promoting universal primary education, improving support for disadvantaged children and promoting responsible health and sex education in primary schools. Creative also conducted a comprehensive assessment of children affected by conflict in Uganda....

 

 

BEPS/ZAMBIA: COMMUNITIES SUPPORTING HEALTH, HIV/AIDS, NUTRITION, GENDER AND EQUITY EDUCATION (CHANGES)

Health Date: July 2000 - March 2004

The USAID-funded Communities Supporting Health, HIV/AIDS, Nutrition, Gender and Equity Education (CHANGES) program put schools at the forefront of the fight against disease and for educational advancement. CHANGES focused on school health and nutrition, and on community sensitization and mobilization. Under the first component, teachers were trained to administer deworming medicines and micronutrient supplements. The second focused on preventive health and more educational opportunities for girls. Both incorporated HIV/AIDS awareness and a small grants mechanism. ...

 

 

BOLIVIA: ASSESSMENT OF USAID PROGRAMS` IMPACT ON STATUS OF WOMEN

Date: August 1978 - May 1979

Creative’s first-ever project provided a team of evaluation and program design specialists to gather and analyze data on the status and role of women in Bolivia. The team assessed how USAID projects addressed women’s needs and conducted a national survey on Bolivian women's preferences for training, education, and services. The final report provided recommendations for effective project implementation procedures, along with proposals for USAID initiatives that would fully include women in the development process....
