El Salvador Community Development for Displaced Families

Prior to the end of the war in El Salvador, Creative initiated the Community Development for Displaced Families project which provided 1,112 families in rural communities with support services. In total, 986 permanent homes were constructed and 82 were upgraded. This effort also involved the construction of 831 latrines and 71 potable water systems/wells. More than 2,000 people were trained in bricklaying and carpentry skills. Five village banks were built. . One thousand and eighty-five people received immunizations, 44 community health workshops were given and nine health clinics were built....
 

BEPS/Guatemala/Rural Education Programs

USAID, in looking to further support local education and strengthen the communication system among educational institutions in Quiche Department, supported several pilot projects in Guatemala. Creative conducted a review of these projects. The results were used for improving the quality and efficiency of pre-school to third grade in Guatemala, and specifically for increasing the number of children completing third grade on time and with increased knowledge and skills. ...
 

BEPS/Guatemala Communications Materials Development

At the request of USAID/Guatemala, Creative produced a media kit that explains the Mission’s 2004-2009 strategic objective, “Investing in People: Healthier, Better-Educated People.” An international consultant contracted by Creative collected information about the various programs through a careful review of relevant background materials, site visits, and interviews with representatives from USAID, the various projects, and the community....
 

BEPS/El Salvador/Developing an Education Strategy

Creative reviewed various donor studies supporting education in El Salvador for USAID, identifying constraints and opportunities for improvement in access and quality in formal and informal basic education, to develop an education strategy for 2003-2010. Areas in which USAID's future educational investments could best mitigate rural poverty in the country were pinpointed. A country-specific education strategy for all ages and target populations resulted, which was then presented to USAID/El Salvador and El Salvador’s Ministry of Education for incorporation into the next phase of educational planning. ...
 

BEPS/Dominican Republic/Evaluating Private Sector Support of Public Education

Under BEPS, Creative evaluated the Falconbridge Foundation's model private sector program supporting public education in the Dominican Republic and made recommendations on both how the program could be improved and how it could harness private sector support for public education in other developing countries. The Foundation is a nonprofit organization established by the Falconbridge mining company to promote integrated, sustainable community development in the Dominican Republic, and had been supporting public elementary schools in the country for more than a decade. ...

Under the USAID-funded Basic Education Policy Support (BEPS) Activity, Creative produced a report, “Monitoring and Evaluation Preliminary Project--Curriculum Analysis, Test Blueprints, and Evaluation Model,” as part of its effort to design a monitoring and evaluation system for education quality in the Dominican Republic.
