BEPS: ROMANIA: COMBATING HUMAN TRAFFICKING

Romania’s geography, widespread poverty and unemployment make it a target for the exploitation of women and children by sex traffickers. A pilot project in northeastern Romania, launched by USAID’s Basic Education Policy Support Activity (BEPS), used education to reach the public, parents, educators and youth about child prostitution and trafficking. It provided high school students, institutionalized children and trafficking survivors with the knowledge needed to find income-producing employment and established a system to identify and monitor at-risk-youth....
 

BEPS/ PHILIPPINES: EDUCATION QUALITY AND ACCESS FOR LEARNING AND LIVELIHOOD SKILLS

Though rich in natural resources, Mindanao historically has been socioeconomically disadvantaged compared to the rest of the Philippines. The USAID-funded Education Quality and Access for Learning and Livelihood Skills (EQuALLS) project was designed to improve the quality of life in war-torn and impoverished Mindanao and support peace and stability through education and job creation. EQuALLS’ goals were to increase learning opportunities; improve the teaching of English, math and science; facilitate educational policy reforms; and complement private-sector livelihood initiatives for out-of-school youth....
 

BEPS/ NEPAL: USING EDUCATION TO PREVENT ABUSIVE CHILD LABOR, TRAFFICKING AND UNSAFE MIGRATION OF CHILDREN AFFECTED BY CONFLICT

Children living in conflict zones are highly susceptible to human trafficking and forced child labor. The USAID-funded Basic Education Policy Support (BEPS) Activity's child labor team assessed practices and developed educational and outreach programs on child labor, trafficking and safe migration. Through local partners, it also designed a preventative project for children internally displaced or out of school due to conflict. BEPS/India/Education Sector Strategic Planning

Creative conducted a phased assessment and implementation analysis of the Indian education sector to identify areas of need regarding improving access to primary education for vulnerable children, particularly girls; to recommend actions to address these needs; to build the capacity of Indian NGOs and Foundations to address access and quality issues in the primary education system; and to assess the feasibility of implementing these recommendations....
 

BEPS/India Education Activity/Child and Police (CAP)

The Child and Police (CAP) project, a component of the India Education Activity, has provided training to madrasa teachers in student centered pedagogical methods, provided computers and other learning materials, and provided school management and networking training to administrators. Through CAP's successful integration of quality, formal academic education in targeted madrasas in Hyderabad, India has led to a 90 percent success rate in the state's 7th and 10th grade exams and a 75 percent increase in children's enrollment. ...
 

Education IQC/Yemen/Yemen Educational Development Support Project

Creative completed the project design and implementation plan for a ten-year project assisting the government of the Yemen Arab Republic in increasing the efficiency of primary education. The design team assisted the Ministry of Education in linking curriculum objectives, teacher training and teachers' materials and assisted in training Ministry officials in the use of information management systems for planning and evaluating project implementation by tracking key determinants of educational efficiency, effectiveness and access. ...
