The West Africa Trade & Investment Hub, a five-year, $108 million project funded by USAID and implemented by Creative Associates International, aimed to enhance private sector productivity and competitiveness in West Africa through market-based approaches. Running from 2019 to 2024, the Trade Hub focused on co-investment grants and technical assistance to bolster business capacities, particularly in Nigeria’s challenging economic and security environment.
Despite hurdles like the COVID-19 pandemic and geopolitical disruptions, the project successfully mobilized significant private investment, created jobs, and promoted sustainable growth by leveraging local expertise and fostering partnerships between West African and U.S. companies. The initiative demonstrated the effectiveness of a blended finance model in driving economic development and food security, emphasizing the importance of locally led development and the inclusion of women and youth in the agricultural sector.
