Somali students in their own words

“I remember the night before my first day at school, my mom told me you will go to school. I couldn’t sleep the whole night,” says one Somali student. Out-of-school students in Somalia wanting to return to classrooms had a unique opportunity through an accelerated basic education program launched by Somalia’s Ministry of Education, with support from USAID’s Bar ama Baro. More than 116,000 students were enrolled during the past four years. We asked students what they thought of their new educational opportunities.
