Creative’s School Dropout Prevention Pilot program was designed to implement and assess interventions in four countries, including India. It was funded by the U.S. Agency for International Development.
In India, the pilot involved the participation of 113 schools, which received important information on the causes of school dropout and strategies to keep children in class. Additionally, 107 schools were included as a control group.
One of the interventions developed by the School Dropout Prevention Pilot program in India was an Early Warning System. This system utilized existing school data to identify students at risk of dropping out and enhance the ability of educators and parents to respond effectively. It also incorporated a voice-based messaging system to improve communication between schools and parents.
Another intervention was the in-school recreation/enrichment activities program, which provided structured extra-curricular activities aimed at fostering cooperative learning, self-confidence, skill development, and enthusiasm for school.
During the period from October 2012 to March 2013, approximately 5,700 fifth-grade students participated in the enrichment program classes. By June 2013, the initiative had developed 10 audio scripts for an awareness-raising mobile phone campaign, which was broadcast to nearly 4,000 parents.
